RV Living 101: How to Wait 2 Weeks for a Part

RV Living 101: How to Wait 2 Weeks for a Part

Desiree and I have always enjoyed the concept of slow traveling — No tour buses, no itineraries down to the hour, and always time for ice cream. You get to enjoy a place when you are not rushing. You get to go back to the small restaurant, understand the transport system like a pro, and find more local happenings.

When Big Dan came down with an engine issue requiring a two week part delivery, the Walters got to enjoy being in a place for a long while. During this time, we discovered the simple pleasures of the local swimming hole. We went there several times as the weather got warmer. The water was cold but doable if you kept moving. The kids learned about river currents — Dad rescued Wade after trying to swim up the current. It was noticeable that the kids swimming abilities advanced from their time at Cindy’s and my Dad’s house. They put those abilities to test in the river.

We also celebrated Amelia’s Birthday. Since Amelia is an “experience” person, she picked horseback riding. Crescent Trails Rides was a perfect guide company. Amelia learned how to ride Brittany, who trotted most the time trying to get to the front. Brittany was very ambitious and wanted to be in the front — a perfect match for Amelia. Wade continued his tradition of getting the horses with the best name, Curly. The trip was 1 ½ hour along the historic Yontocket Indian Memorial Site, over sand dunes, along Kellogg Beach, and open meadows in Tolowa Dunes State Park.

The kids also got new bikes. Wade took to his bike like a pig to mud. He quickly advanced to stunts, including pealing out, trying to go faster than everyone else, and not using his hands. Most, not all, was accomplished without bandaids. It is going to be a long and painful road for him and his mother. Amelia is building trust with her bike, it will be a slow road, but she is working hard on developing her skills.
