Camping with friends in Maine

Camping with friends in Maine

And we are off again! Back in Big Dan, and off to experience what we can of this beautiful country while doing our best to stay safe. Our next stop is Acadia, Maine.

Every year we try and go camping with our friends, and almost every year something changes our plans. And this year was admittedly no different, but we were able to make something even better work. We had been planning on venturing to Maine, to see Acadia National Park, and our besties were able to come meet us for a few days. The kids were ecstatic, they loved showing off our new home and sharing the experiences that we have been having with their friends.

And we did what we’ve been doing in each place we visit - we hiked/walked, enjoyed being outside and seeing the Atlantic Ocean. We spent two days doing 2 hikes in Acadia National Park, which they worked hard at getting their Junior Ranger badges. Every time they wonder off a trail or think of picking a flower their oath looms large, its adorable. I’d never been to Acadia and it was stunning, this beautiful landscape perched on high cliffs, being able to enjoy the ocean without the typical dipping - all its smells and sounds. The first hike was the Ocean Path Trail, we passed Thunder hole though (it was crowded, and didn’t seem to be thundering) and went to Otter Point. We’d veer off the path occasionally and the children would scramble on the rocks. What is it with kids and rock scrambling? The second day we hiked Ship Harbor trail, and this trail was perfect for the kids. Lots to explore, beautiful views of the harbor, rocks to throw in the water, and barely anybody to share the trail with.

The children also spent those days playing games with their friends, going to the playground, and making smores and helmets. But mostly sword-fighting, this is what they did most. Daytime sword fighting. Nighttime sword fighting. There was lobster eating and ice cream eating in Bar Harbor. The happiest of times really, for all ages. Until it was time to leave, then the tears, always ends in tears, but always worth it.
